We often get stuck in a mindset that is hard to break away from, especially in the practice of medicine and health care in general. We were introduced to Dr. Tue Truong by accident. She brings a new and refreshing approach to the practice of medicine and we have embraced it with open hearts. Dr. Lilien graduated top 10 in his class from the University of the Pacific Dental School. He then went on to complete four years of surgical training at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. His expertise is in pre-prosthetic oral surgery, where he prepares the oral cavity for dentures, crowns, and implants. He also has extensive training in grafting techniques where he uses state of the art materials to maintain or grow bone in the jaw. Dr. Lilien practices the full scope of his profession with trauma, reconstruction, exposure of impacted teeth, transplantation of teeth, surgical endodontics and pathology commonly performed in our modern facilities. This is a new, "thank you," for us as we have never acknowledged a "Nurse Practitioner of the Month," before. We apologize for that lack of judgment on our part, especially after seeing Jane in action. We tend to always thank the physicians when in fact their support staff, and the nurse practitioners in particular, are just as hard working, caring and attentive to the needs of diabetics. Jane Sepiol is that kind of FNP. It is due to her never ending efforts to help diabetics that she was brought to our attention and once she had ours, she kept it. Mike is one of a kind. He is a very good person and he loves his work. Ladies and gentleman, meet Mr. Dennis Jouett, our Diabetic of the Month. However, we want to also include him as our Diabetic of the Year, an honor we have never bestowed on any patient, but have to on this one. When you look up inspiration in the dictionary it should show Dennis’s picture. This man is the truest definition of the word. For us here at D4D, it’s pure joy to see him walk through the door each time he comes to the clinic for follow up. He started at 555 pounds, is now 418 pounds and losing weight each and every week. Gastric Bypass was once a consideration, not any more, he’s going to do it on his own. He goes to Pure Fitness, another of our Patient Support Partners and works out with their trainers a minimum of three days a week, most of the time four days, and brings about joy and inspiration there as well. He has been treated badly all his life due to his weight, never given respect or considered more than a fat man, but I am telling you, this kid is the greatest man we have ever came across and the one that makes us all feel so darn good about what we do. We all love him, respect him, admire him and are amazed by him. This man deserves every honor we can give him, of that we are sure. I also want to thank Pure Fitness for coming through for this kid. When we asked him to go over to one of their centers and sign up he was a bit reluctant about it. It’s scary going into a fitness center for the first time and being the biggest guy in there, but with our encouragement and his sister's support (who is also a great great lady, Mrs. Pat Jacobs) he went and I asked him to tell me how they treated him. Well, he called me and told me he had, never in his life, been treated as well as they treated him. He was respected, not made fun of and everyone wanted to help him, be a part of his pursuit to get healthy. This was months ago and they still treat him like the most popular guy in the gym, always coming up to him and offering advice, help and encouragement, which just confirms our decision to take Pure Fitness as a Patient Support Partner, one of the best we ever made.
